2026 FIFA WCQ: Osimhen’s Brace gives Super Eagles Win in Rwanda

A first half brace (11th and 45th minute) by Victor Osimhen was enough to inspire the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 2-0 win against hosts Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers played at the Amahoro stadium in Kigali.

The win also gives Eric Chelle a much needed win in his first ever competitive match as Super Eagles’ head coach, and puts the Nigerians back in contention for a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.

The Super Eagles now have six points from five matches, one point behind Rwanda, two behind Benin, and four behind Group leaders South Africa, who won 2-0 against Lesotho.

With 25 goals in 48 matches, Nigerians are hopeful that Osimhen will continue his scorong form when the Super Eagles play their next match at home in Uyo against Zimbabwe.

For the Super Eagles, it will be one of five ‘finals’ to secure their participation in the FIFA World Cup, having missed out of the last edition in Qatar.
