2026 World Cup African Qualifiers: Rwanda upset South Africa, Comoros shock Ghana

It was a day of upsets in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers as South Africa and Ghana suffered shock defeats, while Cameroon and Senegal were forced to settle for draws away from home on Tuesday.

While Rwanda got an unexpected, but well deserved 2-0 win at home against South Africa to go top of Group C, a point ahead of the South Africans, and two above Nigeria, Comoros shocked Ghana with a 1-0 win in Moroni to go top of Group I with six points. In their first match, the small Indian Ocean Island nation defeated Central African Republic 4-2.

Past Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions Cameroon and Senegal were forced to settle for draws away from home against Libya and Togo respectively.
