Augustine Eguavoen to continue as Super Eagles’ Interim Coach

Augustine Eguavoen will continue in his role as Interim Head Coach of the Super Eagles and lead the team in its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya next month.

A statement by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday noted that its Executive Committee approved Eguavoen’s continuation as coach based on the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

The 58-year-old current record in temporary charge of the Super Eagles includes a win and draw – a 3-0 win against Benin Republic and scoreless draw with Rwanda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches played earlier this month.

The former Super Eagles legend took charge of the national team after the NFF’s botched deal to sign German coach, Bruno Labbadia.

Eguavoen and the current technical crew that also includes Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa and Tomaz Zorec will also take charge of the Super Eagles B team for the qualifying campaign for next year’s African Nations Championship, otherwise known as CHAN.

Meanwhile, following the departure of Randy Waldrum as Super Falcons head coach, the NFF has appointed coach Justin Madugu to take charge of the senior women national team, pending the appointment of a substantive head coach.
