Burna Boy, Tems, Tyla, Ayra Starr, Rema, Asake, Others nominated for 2024 MTV EMAs

Afrobeats and African music stars will take centre stage at this year’s MTV EMAs, with Ayra Starr and Tyla leading the pack among the continent’s acts with four nominations each. 

Ayra Starr is nominated for “Best New”, “Best Afrobeats”, “Best African Act”, and her captivating performances on MTV Push earned her a nod for “Best Push”, while South African star Tyla, earning her first-ever MTV EMA nominations, is nominated in the “Best New”, “Best Afrobeats”, “Best R&B”, and “Best African Act” categories.

Other African stars such as Burna Boy, Rema, Asake, and Tems have also been nominated in the “Best Afrobeats” category. Additionally, Asake, Diamond Platnumz, DBN Gogo, TitoM & Yuppe have secured nominations in the “Best African Act” regional category.

Speaking on the nominations of African acts, Monde Twala, Senior Vice-President & General Manager of Paramount Africa and Lead BET International, said, “Artists like Ayra Starr, Tyla, Burna Boy, Tems and many others are true ambassadors of African excellence, and their achievements inspire the next generation of creatives across the continent. Taylor Swift leads the full pack with seven nominations, including “Best Artist,” “Best Video”, “Best Pop” and “Biggest Fans”. Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charli xcx and Sabrina Carpenter all scored five nominations each, appearing in categories such as “Best Song”, “Best Video” and “Best Artist”. Closely following with four nominations each are Ayra Starr, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, LISA, plus first-time nominees Chappell Roan and Tyla.

The 2024 MTV EMAs will be broadcast live from Manchester’s Co-op Live in the UK on Sunday, November 10.
