FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup: Winners, Losers in Colombia 2024

Korea DPR were crowned champions of the Colombia 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup defeating Japan 1-0 On Sunday in Bogota to win their third record-equaling title, joining Germany and USA as three-time title winners of the tournament.

The lone goal in the 15th minute of the final by Korea DPR’s 17-year-old star Choe Il-son capped an impressive tournament for both player and country.

Korea DPR won every single game in Colombia 2024, with Choe Il-son scoring six goals and getting one assist. It was fitting that she eventually won the Golden Boot and was also named Player of the Tournament.

In the third-place match, a late goal in extra time ensured USA beat Netherlands 2-1 to finish third.

Africa representatives at Colombia 2024 were eliminated in the Round of 16. Nigeria’s Falconets lost 2-1 to finalist Japan, while Cameroon succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against Brazil.
