FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: South Africa, Rwanda win to go Joint Top of Group C

South Africa defeated Zimbabwe by 3-1 to go joint top of Group C, alongside Rwanda, who recorded a lone goal victory over Lesotho in the FIFA World Cup African Qualifying matches played on Tuesday evening.

Three countries in Group C – Rwanda, South Africa and Benin Republic, now have seven points after four matches. However Rwanda are ahead on a one goal difference.

Benin shocked AFCON finalists Nigeria with a 2-1 victory on Monday in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Lesotho, Nigeria and Zimbabwe in that order are the other countries behind the joint Group C leaders, with five, three and two points respectively.

There are six more matches to play to decide the group winner that will automatically qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.
