Movie Weekend: Festive Season comes early on Netflix, Missing and A Naija Christmas
1. Best. Christmas. Ever! When a twist of fate lands Charlotte (Heather Graham) and her family at her old college friend’s Jackie’s (Brandy) house only days before Christmas, she seizes the opportunity to prove her old friend’s life isn’t as wonderful as it seems from her holiday newsletter. It is one of Netflix’s newest Holiday Movie starring Heather Graham, Brandy Norwood, Jason Biggs and Matt Cedeño and premiered on the global streaming platform on November 16. Fans of Brandy would love this feel-good Christmas holiday movie, a refreshing watch for the whole family.
2. Missing: When her mother, Grace Allen (Nia Long) disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, Kevin Lin (Ken Leung), June’s (Storm Reid) search for answers is hindered by an international red tape. Stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June creatively uses all the latest technology at her fingertips to try and find her before it’s too late. Although the movie was released on Amazon Prime Video in March and then released in the US on Netflix in May, Missing premiered on Netflix in Nigeria and some other countries in November, and was Top 10 for a couple of weeks. The suspense and plot twists are fuelled by the power of technology, speed of the Internet and brilliant acting by the cast.
3. A Naija Christmas: For Christmas, a mother has only one wish from her three sons, for one or all of them to get married and give her grandchildren. She challenges them by offering the first son to marry her Ikoyi house as his inheritance. Acclaimed as the first Nigerian Christmas film on Netflix, this December 2021 Nollywood movie directed by award winning Kunle Afolayan is still fresh for a Holiday movie binge. The brilliant cast include Abayomi Alvin, Lateef Adedimeji, Kunle Remi, Efa Iwara, (the late) Rachel Oniga, Linda Osifo, Ade Laoye and Segilola Ogidan, who played the lovely Ajike. A satisfying watch.
