The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria a 3-0 win and three points against Libya’s Mediterranean Knights following their botched Africa Cup of Nations, (AFCON) Morocco 2025 Qualifier second leg match.
CAF also ordered the Libya Football Federation to pay a fine of USD $50,000 within a 60-day period.
These are part of the decisions reached by the CAF disciplinary board following the botched AFCON 2025 Qualifier second leg match between Libya and Nigeria scheduled for Tuesday, October 15 in Libya.
However, the match didn’t hold as the Super Eagles returned to Nigeria over security concerns and poor treatment by the hosts on arrival in the North African country on Sunday, October 13.
The aircraft carrying the Nigerian contingent was stranded for over 15 hours at the Al-Abraq airport on arrival, while the Nigerian contingent was refused assistance from the Libyan Football Federation, which didn’t make any arrangement for transportation.
The Super Eagles had been scheduled to arrive at the Benghazi Airport and travel by road to Benina, where the match was to be played.
Nigeria had won the first leg by 1-0 in Uyo.
According to the CAF statement on Sunday, its Disciplinary Board decided as follows:
“Libya Football Federation was found to have breached Article 31 of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
“The match No.87 Libya vs Nigeria of the TotalEnergies CAF African Cup of Nations Qualifiers 2025 (scheduled to be played on 15 October 2024 in Benghazi) is declared lost by forfeit by Libya (by a score of 3-0).
“The Libya Football Federation is ordered to pay a fine of USD 50,000. The fine is to be paid within 60 days of notification of the present decision.
“All other and further motions or prayers for relief are dismissed.”
