Paris 2024: Super Falcons edge past South Africa in Olympics Qualifier

A 42nd minute penalty by Rasheedat Ajibade gave the Super Falcons a slim 1-0 win against reigning African champions South Africa in their Women’s Olympic Football qualifying match at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Friday night.

Midway into the second half, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie kept the scoreline in favour of Nigeria when she made a world-class save to deny Banyana Banyana’s Jermain Seoposenwe following a good pass from Thembi Kgatlana.

Both African football heavyweights have all to play for in Tuesday’s return leg at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria to decide who takes the baton to Paris 2024.
